Jordan McEneff has expressed his delight after signing his first professional contract with Arsenal at the weekend.
The 17-year-old had an injury-plagued year in 2017 but has come back strongly, impressing in his seven appearances as an attacking midfielder for the under-18s this year.
McEneff has had to overcome back and foot problems in recent times, making this latest achievement all the more impressive, and the Derry teenager is determined to add to his growing reputation in the game.
“It’s boosted my confidence a lot that they appreciate what I’m doing,” he explained. “Getting the contract is a big thing so hopefully I can push forward and get another one.
“Obviously last year was probably the worst year I’ve had since I started playing football so for them to give me the contract has boosted my confidence. Hopefully this season I’m injury-free so I can show what I can do.”
