It might not have been a particularly successful weekend for some of the sides but the FA Cup proved a treat for some of the local lads across the water.

Only James McClean's Wigan's survived to the last 16 of the competition but, with four Derry men featuring across as many matches, it was a productive showcase of the north west's talent.

Ervey Road man Shane Ferguson was tearing up the left flank at St. Andrew's as Birmingham entertained Premier League outfit Swansea City.

Shane Duffy, on loan at Yeovil, fancied their chances of another cup upset but couldn't contain Southampton as the top flight men ran out 2-0 winners.

Former Trojans starlet, James McClean, received the highest praise from manager Uwe Rosler who labelled the Creggan man's performance "outstanding" as Wigan sprang a shock to oust Crystal Palace.

And, although Banagher native Eunan O'Kane was awarded man of the match for his shift in Bournemouth's battle with his boyhood favourites, Liverpool, it was the Merseysiders who prevailed.
