Derry City broke all kinds of records as they demolished Blarney this evening in the FAI Cup First Round.

Blarney United 2

Derry City 12

It was all too easy for Kenny Shiels’ team as they blitzed their non-league opponents, with Ally Roy scoring four, Ronan Hale, Shane McNamee and Aaron McEneff scoring twice each, and Cathal Farren and Kevin McHattie all chipping in with a goal apiece.

It was 7-0 at half time and just got worse for Blarmey from there.

It is City’s biggest score since defeating Galway United 9-1 at the Brandywell back in 1989, and easily surpassed City’s record FAI Cup win, which was previously 7-0 vs. Rockmount in 1998.

Aiden Leahy and Conor Cronin scored twice in a minute to put some respectability on the scoreline, but this was all about the scoring power of Derry City, who absolutely cruised into the next round of the cup.

The score line could have been even more emphatic, with McEneff missing a first half penalty and goalkeeper Cian Woods in inspiring form throughout, making a number of brilliant saves.
