Former Derry captain and Lavey club man Kevin McCloy remains in hospital after collapsing on the pitch last night with what is believed to have been a heart attack.

The All-Star defender was competing during Lavey's second round championship clash with Magherafelt at Owenbeg which was subsequently abandoned as the Erin's Own man received vital treatment.

It is understood that a defibrillator was used by medics at the scene.

McCloy was then taken to Altnagelvin hospital where a Lavey spokesperson said he was "showing signs of improvement".

The GAA community all over the country and beyond sent their thoughts and well-wishes to the player, his club and his family in a touch of care and class.
