Finn Harps have failed to join North West neighbours Derry City and Cockhill Celtic in the next round of the FAI Cup after they were defeated in a dramatic penalty shoot-out by Longford Town in their second round replay at Finn Park tonight.
Former Derry City keeper Ciaran Gallagher, celebrating his 25th birthday, was beaten on four occasions in the shoot-out after the game had ended scoreless at the end of extra-time.
Harps went first in the shoot-out, Kevin McHugh (pictured) and Tony McNamee successful spot kicks being cancelled out Mark Salmon and David O’Sullivan.
However, Gareth Harkin missed his and Kevin O’Connor took full advantage to put the visitors’ one up.
Garbhan Friel converted and the sides were all-square when Rhys Gorman failed to maintain the Longford lead.
Josh Mailey was unsuccessful leaving it to Martin Deady to step up a secure a 4-3 win for Town.
