Funding has been allocated towards disability sport in the Derry and Strabane areas, a local councillor said today.
Sinn Féin councillor Eric McGinley has welcomed the awarding of Disabilty Sport funding to Derry City and Strabane District Council.
Cllr. McGinley said: “Our council and Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council will be able to avail of 370k of funding in partnership with Disability Sport to introduce programmes that empower people to become more active and consequently increase their sense of wellbeing.
“Whilst the initiative is delivered in conjunction with Disability Sport the participants in the programmes will reach across all Sections 75 groupings.
“Derry City & Strabane District Council is already one of the most proactive Local Authorities in encouraging citizens to become more active and this funding award will see an Active Recreation Officer based locally in the Foyle Arena.
“The delivery of the project will be overseen by a Get Out Get Active Forum and I would encourage citizens to participate in the forthcoming programmes.”
