Farloe Joey, owned by Derry's Paul Ellis, recorded a great if fortunate win in one of the opening heats of the Best Car Parks Gold Cop Open 525 at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

Running out of trap two, the Owen McKenna trained dog, was last out of the traps and trailed going into the first bend but then got a great break as a gap opened up and he slipped through on the second bend to on and qualify for round two of the competition that features €20,000 for the overall winner.

Meanwhile, there was a 12 race card in Lifford.
