Bray Wanderers 2
Derry City 2
Derry City had to make do with a point in an entertaining clash at the Carlisle Grounds.
Dylan Connolly was the star of the show for Bray as he scored twice, either side of goals from Rory Patterson and Aaron McEneff for Derry.
It was Bray Wanderers who took the lead on 17 minutes when Connolly raced in behind City debutant Max Kraner and swept the ball past Gerard Doherty to open the scoring.
Bray were on top after that and should have doubled their lead when Kevin Lynch’s cross picked out Connolly unmarked but his volley cleared the crossbar.
Derry were under the cosh but they equalised against the run of play when Aaron McEneff crashed a sensational free kick off the crossbar and Rory Patterson was on hand to knock home the rebound for his 12th goal of the season.
It got even better for Derry ten minutes into the second half when City went ahead from the penalty spot. Ronan Curtis was fouled giving Aaron McEneff the chance to sweep home his fifth penalty kick of the season.
But City could not hold on to their lead as Connolly got in behind Derry again and he beat Doherty for a second time to earn a share of the spoils for the hosts.
