Brandywell, 6pm

GERARD Doherty has called on Derry City fans to come out and support the players in this evening’s Europa League clash at the Brandywell.

The build-up to the game with Dinamo Minsk has been dominated by the recent controversy over ticket prices rather than the game itself, but Doherty and his teammates have been focused on matters on the pitch. He did, however, say that the fans can play a massive part in the team getting a result.

“The fans follow us around the country, week in and week out and they want us to do well and want to see us in Europe. I don’t want the fans to miss out on that,” he said.

“It’s going to be a good occasion. It’s the first European tie back at the new Brandywell so I just hope that we can forget about all this for a week or so and back the players.

“At the end of the day we need it.

“You only have to go back a couple of months when the Brandywell was bouncing when we were doing well and that spurred us on as well. It’s no coincidence that we were winning games there straight away because that helps, make no bones about it. Hopefully, the fans can turn on in their droves and spur the team on because we need it.”
