Roddy Collins is no longer in charge of Derry City but the Dubliner is adamant that the Candy Stripes didn't get the break as his tenure came to a stuttering halt last night.

Collins was given just 12 league games in charge of the 2012 FAI Cup champions but the north west outfit managed just two victories during that spell and the Brandywell boys failed to score in half of those fixtures.

However, in his final interview in charge of Derry, Collins defended what he was trying to do.

"When we got the win against Athlone, everyone was dancing around as if it was brilliant, but that was one of the worst performances I've seen," he said before labelling labelling Friday's defeat at home to Shamrock Rovers the side's best performance of the season.

"I'm doing my job, I'm working hard and I'm developing young players.  We're not getting the break of the ball, that's for certain.  If we had Patrick (McEleney) and Rory (Patterson), we were looking at a win and then no one is asking me these questions but that's the nature of the game."
