Derry City comfortably saw off Finn Harps thanks to a Ciaron Harkin treble at the Brandywell.
Derry City 4
Finn Harps 0
Derry City struck the opening goal just past the half hour mark when Daniel O’Reilly was adjudged to have fouled David Parkhouse in the area and referee Tomas Connolly pointed to the penalty spot.
Junior Ogedi took the ball and while his spot kick was poor, giving Peter Burke an easy save, the Harps goalkeeper could not hold onto the ball and the striker was able to sweep in the rebound to put City 1-0 ahead.
Derry doubled their lead just before half time with an exquisite strike. Junior was again in the thick of things, winning City a free kick on the edge of the area and there was nothing Burke could do as Harkin lashed the ball past him and onto the top corner from 20 yards to send the Candy Stripes into the break with a comfortable lead.
The game was ended as a contest on 67 minutes as Greg Sloggett robbed Keith Cowan and set Derry away on the counter attack which ended in Harkin sweeping in his second of the night to make it 3-0.
Harkin then completed his hat trick in added time at the end of the game, firing home his third after Aidy Delap’s cross.
