Even in the predominant absence of Derry’s perceived best shooting options, Brian McIver has found 20 different scorers across an extended league campaign.
You’d have thought coming out of the winter that the Oak Leafers would be placing more and more emphasis on the like of James Kielt and Ryan Bell as Eoin Bradley’s exclusion became more likely and yet, injury and team selection have meant that the potent Kilrea and Ballinderry attackers haven’t featured as much, but to no big crisis.
Instead, scores have come from all over the park with 14 of that 20 all registering more than once, every man helping the cause, every man basically attacking.
And then there’s Mark Lynch. Of the nine league games, Lynch has played eight. Of those eight, he has top scored on six occasions. On those occasions, Derry remain unbeaten. On the others, they have yet to win.
The captain has led the way fantastically and he is rightly a marked man but, when he is in the kind of mood that he has been for most of the year, there looks to be little stopping the Banagher footballer.
And, when that happens, there looks to be even less stopping Derry.
