It is another valuable point for Derry City who did just enough to hang on for a point under incessant pressure from Bohemians late on at Dalymount Park.

Eoghan Stokes had given City the lead from the penalty spot early in the second half but the visitors were pegged back as James Finnerty eventually found the breakthrough for a deserving Bohs side.

The hosts piled the pressure on in the closing stages but they could not get the winning goal, thanks in main to Peter Cherrie who produced several fine saves throughout.

Derry had goalkeeper Cherrie to thank for keeping them level early on as Keith Ward's curling free-kick was headed towards the top corner but the goalkeeper somehow got his hand to the ball to push it behind for a corner.

The goal that the game desperately needed arrived on 52 minutes and it came Derry City’s way.

Eoin Toal burst forward onto a loose ball in midfield and found Junior who in turn hooked the ball inot the path of Stokes just inside the penalty area. Stokes was too quick for Derek Pender, who stuck out a foot and brought the Derry man down, and referee Tomas Connolly, who was directly in line with the incident, pointed to the penalty spot.

It was Stokes who took responsibility and he whipped the ball brilliantly into the bottom corner to give Derry the lead, becoming the first person to breach the Bohs defence this season in the process.

Derry were inviting constant pressure by conceding free kicks in dangerous positions, and the pressure was building as a result. Bohs got their equaliser on 77 minutes when Keith Ward drive forward and his through ball went all the way through for James Finnerty who prodded the ball beyond Cherrie and into the net to make it 1-1.

Bohs piled everyone forward in the closing stages as they tried to get the winner but Derry held on valiantly to pick up another decent result on the road.
