North-west based fans of Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers have plenty to talk about this evening - as a result of  events in San Marino and Luxembourg!

Linfield are through to the second round of the Champions League qualifiers and will now face Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic in Belfast later this month.

But Rangers crashed out of the Europa League as they lost to minnows Progres Niederkorn from Luxembourg.

Tonight Linfield drew 0-0 away to San Marino side La Fiorita to go through 1-0 on aggregate having won the first leg by the narrowest of margins.

They will host Celtic at Windsor Park on Friday, July 14th at 5.00 pm

Originally the game was pencilled in for on 11 or 12 July, but that sparked fears of trouble among the Celtic supporters and Linfield’s  fans. It was subsequently agreed to alter the date, and Celtic also decided not to take up their ticket allocation.

Meanwhile, it was a dreadful night for followers of Glasgow Rangers.

Indeed, it was one of the worst results in the history of the famous Ibrox club.

Rangers led 1-0 from the first game at home but lost the second-leg tonight 2-0 to lose out 2-1 on aggregate.

Progres had never won a match in Europe going into Tuesday's second leg.

Linfield's reward of a two-legged tie with the Parkhead club could earn the Irish Premiership winners up to £1 million from a combination of UEFA prize-money, gate receipts, television rights, advertising and mechandising.
