Soccer can be such a cruel game, just ask Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan.
The Donegal club went to Eamon Deacy Park hoping to a halt a run of four straight league defeats that has seen them slip to bottom spot but it finished:
Galway United 2, Finn Harps 1
Striker Vinny Faherty, not for the first time, broke Harps hearts as headed home an injury time Marc Ludden cross to bag the points for the home side.
It was rough justice on Harps who had been the better side for most of the game.
Ciaran O’Connor, and Kilian Cantwell, who headed against the crossbar, went close for Harps before they took the lead on 27 minutes when Barry Molloy's shot struck the post and eventually went in off the Galway goalkeeper Conor Winn.
Harps had the better of things after the break with Gareth Harkin, O'Connor and Morrissey being denied by Winn.
The Tribesmen drew level on 71 minutes when David Cawley was impeded in the box by Danny Morrissey and from the resulting penalty Ronan Murray scored to delight the majority in a crowd of 1,009.
Passionate Harps boss Ollie Horgan, who had just seen out a one match touchline ban, was soon in hot water again as his frustration on the touchline was becoming clearly evident.
Horgan was then banished to the stands by eferee Ray Matthews.
Faherty looked to gave blown Galway's last chance as he linked with a Murray cross but could find the net.
But deep into stoppage time he got another chance and this time made it count with a header beyond he reach of Ciaran Gallagher.
Galway move out of the relegation zone but Harps are now facing an increasingly uphill battle to survive in the top flight.
