Derry City Ladies have been no strangers to cup finals in recent years and they have a chance to reach another when they play Cliftonville in the IFA cup semi-final in two weeks time.

It won’t be an easy task for Rory Kehoe’s side as the Belfast team sit second in the Premiership table with top scorer and Derry native Celine Curtis leading their attack.

City captain Shannon Dunne said her side know that they will have to be at their best to progress.

“It’s a difficult draw but we always believe we have a chance,” Dunne told the Derry News.

“We were in there with the top three teams in the league so no matter who we got we knew we were going to face a tough game.”

The ‘Candystripes’ were comprehensively beaten by their opponents when the sides met in June but Dunne believes it will be a totally different game this time around.

“They put five past us when they were here but we’ve come a long way since then.

“They’re second in the league and you don’t get there without being a very good side but we’ve been making improvements every week and getting this far in the cup is proof of that so anything can happen,” added the captain.
