DUNDALK 3, DERRY CITY 1
Derry City’s hopes of clinching third spot in the Aitricity Premier Division and a place in the Europa League suffered a setback when they were defeated 3-1 by league leaders Dundalk at Oriel Park tonight.
Lukas Schubert (pictured) put Derry ahead as early as the sixth minute when the Austrian tapped home from inside the six yard box after keeper Rogers had failed to hold a Rory Patterson strike.
However, goals from John Mountrey (13) and Brian Garland (17) sent the home sidein 2-1 up at the break.
David McMillan added a third for Stephen Kenny’s side when he fired home from 12 yards after being set up by Horgan in the second half.
Derry were looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to 11 games.
Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers who are battling Derry the eagerly sought third spot, lead Galway United 4-2 in their 8.00pm kick-off game at Tallaght Stadium.
If that score stays the same, it will see Rovers go a point ahead of Derry.
With games running out, it means City can ill-afford to lose their clash against the Hoops at Brandywell on Tuesday night next.
