Music lovers in Derry are warmly invited to a special free evening concert this May, featuring the acclaimed High Point University Chamber Singers from North Carolina, USA.

The ensemble will perform at St Columb's Cathedral on Saturday, May 9 2026 at 7:30pm. This event is open to all and promises an inspiring programme of choral music.

Under the direction of Marc Ashley Foster, the choir will present a rich and varied repertoire spanning both modern and traditional styles. The programme will include sacred, spiritual, and gospel favourites by celebrated composers such as John Tavener, Eric Whitacre, Thomas Tallis, John Rutter, and Dolly Parton, among others.

The Chamber Singers are the premier vocal ensemble of High Point University, based in High Point, North Carolina. This select group is made up of students from a wide range of academic disciplines, chosen through a competitive audition process and awarded scholarships for their participation. The choir rehearses five days a week and performs over 40 concerts annually, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to musical excellence.

The ensemble has received widespread recognition for its achievements, including a sold-out solo performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, and appearances at major conferences such as the North Carolina Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. They have also been featured on nationally televised Christmas specials across the United States.

Internationally, the choir has performed in some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Duomo in Florence, and St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, as well as concert halls and festivals across Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland. Their global touring experience and collaborations with renowned ensembles highlight their exceptional versatility and artistry.
