St. Joseph’s ready to rock Derry with ‘School of Rock - The Musical'

The guitars are tuned and the cast is ready. Doors open at 6:30 PM! Who’s ready to rock with St. Joseph’s?

‘Rock Your Socks’ off over the next three nights in Derry and watch a highly talented group of young performers tread the boards in the St. Joseph’s Boys’ School’s highly-acclaimed production of ‘School of Rock – The Musical.’

Yes, three nights only, 17-19 February at 7 pm, the Assembly Hall will see the thirty strong cast of students from the school, including our A Level cohort from St Cecilia’s and St Mary’s as well as pupils from St Therese’s Primary.

Local feeder primary schools St John’s, St Eithne’s and Holy Child will also have pupils involved displaying their singing, dancing, acting and rock and roll talents to what will hopefully be three packed houses with a matinee thrown in for good measure.

Based on the much-loved 2003 film starring Jack Black, the musical – featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a script by Julian Fellowes - follows the story of Dewey Finn, a failed rock musician who impersonates a supply teacher, before transforming a class of elite preparatory school students into a high-energy rock band, changing lives along the way.

St. Joseph’s Principal, Mrs. Ciara Deane, who has been watching the many rehearsals over the past few weeks, said: ‘Honestly, the performances in rehearsals are nothing short of outstanding, with every student playing a vital role – whether acting, singing, or playing musical instruments – or, in some cases, all three!

Ciara McCallion, Drama Coordinator at the school added: “I’m delighted with what we’ve put together and the students can’t wait to go live on Tuesday morning with the matinee and follow up on tomorrow (Tuesday) night, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

‘We have an extremely talented group of youngsters and they have given their all in rehearsals. The comic timing, energy, passion, and humour will be infectious and hopefully, everyone who comes along with enjoy an impressive night of entertainment.
