Derry’s rising country star Abbie Mac is back with the release of her second single 'She Ain’t Blue'.

Since her debut single release 'Dead Inside' in March, Abbie has been busy.

On the weekend of her debut release the 17-year-old appeared at Country to Country 2024 in London's O2 Arena, and has the distinction of being the youngest person ever to play the festival.

Abbie has been asked to support chart-topping country sensation Morgan Wallen as he brings his show to BST Hyde Park on July 4th.

“My life feels like a dream at the moment, all these amazing things keep happening and I keep having to check it’s all real! I’ve loved country music ever since as I was a little girl and getting to play at the same events as artist’s I’ve grown up listening to is just unreal,” Abbie said.

Supporting one of her idol’s Morgan Wallen isn’t even the thing Abbie is most excited about.

“In a week’s time I get to play The Farmers Bash in Belfast. That’s so special to me as it feels like my first real 'home-town' gig. So many people from Derry will be there and I can’t wait to play my new single because it’s inspired by the countryside all around me”.

So, what is the story behind 'She Ain’t Blue'?

It might come as a bit of a surprise to know it’s about love and a tractor! Abbie laugh’s as she explains: “No I’m not in love with a tractor. There’s a saying where I’m from, that if a tractor isn’t blue then it’s just not good enough.

"I took the concept of that and applied it to how I feel in relationships. Like sometimes no matter how hard you try, it’s just not good enough and they will always think someone is better than you without ever getting to know the real you”.

The song is a hauntingly beautiful and honest journey into self-doubt and through the lyrics we can hear Abbie asking to be good enough, asking to be seen.

Abbie continued: “I sometimes can feel a bit invisible, like people don’t see the real me and they write me off before they even get to know me.

"Maybe it’s because at 4ft 11" I’m so small and young but people always seem to underestimate me and this song is basically saying, don’t judge someone by how they appear”.

Underestimating the mighty Abbie Mac is definitely something we won’t be doing, she seems to be an unstoppable force and for someone so young she definitely knows where she is going!

'She Ain’t Blue' is out on all streaming services on Friday 21st June 2024.
