Midweek sunshine sticks around Ireland as Met Eireann pinpoints when showers may return

You might have to keep an umbrella to hand this weekend as Ireland's mini heatwave draws to an end

Midweek sunshine sticks around Ireland as Met Eireann pinpoints when showers may return

Ireland is enjoying a stretch of dry, sunny weather this week with temperatures set to climb as high as 20 degrees today, though Met Éireann warns that showers may return by the weekend.

Today, Wednesday, will be largely bright with “lots of sunshine and just scattered fair-weather cloud,” according to the national forecaster. Temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees, though “a little cooler at the coast with mostly light northerly or variable breezes.”

It will stay dry and clear tonight, with Met Éireann saying: “Lowest temperatures will range from 3 to 7 degrees, coolest in Ulster.”

Thursday is expected to follow a similar pattern, with “a mixture of cloud and sunshine” and “the small chance of an isolated shower in the south.” Highs will range from 12 to 18 degrees, with the warmest weather in the west.

Looking further ahead, the national outlook from Met Éireann points to a largely settled spell: “Plenty of dry and sunny weather but with the chance of a few showers developing, especially on Sunday.”

Friday and Saturday are also expected to bring “plenty of sunshine,” though there is a risk of some patchy rain arriving in Atlantic coastal counties by Saturday night.

Sunday may see a return to more mixed conditions, with “some showers around… but also with decent spells of sunshine” and top temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees.

With the weekend still uncertain, Met Éireann’s advice is to make the most of the warm, settled conditions midweek while keeping an umbrella handy just in case.
