A Derry teenager has been chosen to be part of Louis Walsh’s new boy band.
Gareth Barrow, 18, is one of the five members of the new group Hometown.
Walsh has claimed that Hometown will be a huge success.
“I think they will be one of the biggest bands in the world, not just the UK and Ireland,” he said.
“I genuinely think they will give One Direction a run for their money.”
The five members of Hometown were chosen after a gruelling selection process which involved hundreds of young singers.
Gareth, who is from the Top of the Hill area of Derry, was the last member chosen – and he only found out he had a place two days before Christmas.
“I woke up and saw six missed calls from a southern number," he told today's Sunday World.
“So I went into my text messages and it said ‘call me – Louis Walsh’.
“So I rang him back. He told me to sit and down and told me the news and I broke down in tears.”
Hometown are now working on their first album.
