Two men have appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged in connection with a police raid which uncovered £150,000 at a house in the Waterside area earlier this week.

William Duncan, 68, of Moore Street, and Paul Rogers, 50, whose address was given as Stoneypath, both appeared at Derry Magistrates Court this morning charged with a string of drug offences, including being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The court was told that the charges arose out of a police raid at Duncan’s Moore Street home on Tuesday.

Police forced their way into the property which was empty at the time, and discovered over four kilos of drugs, including cannabis and amphetamine, in a hot press.

£3,700 in cash was also seized.

The court heard that both defendants then returned to the property while the police were still there, and officers then carried out a follow up search of Rogers’ home, where officers found £6,500.

Both men were charged with possessing cannabis and amphetamines, being concerned in the supply of drugs, possessing criminal property and concealing criminal property.

A police officer told this morning’s hearing that Duncan had been arrested in France previously after being apprehended with a quantity of drugs in a suitcase.

Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear in court again on March 27.
