SDLP Derry Councillor Angela Dobbins has said she is 'hopeful' that new bus shelters for Culmore will be delivered.

Cllr Dobbins said she has been lobbying Transport NI and council for provision for a number of years.

She said: "For a number years I have continued to lobby Transport NI and council for bus shelters in the Culmore area of the city.

"Today, I am pleased to confirm that Transport NI will look into to addressing provision for bus shelters, particularly on the Culmore Point Road, which is very exposed to the elements.

"Constituents have come to me annoyed that shelters have not been placed in the area and when the weather is bad, it stops them from using the bus service into town.

"If we are to encourage more people to use public transport, improving our environment, then we need to invest in transport infrastructure so that citizens are able to do so.

"I am hopeful that Transport NI will deliver for residents in the area based on the work I've been doing with the agency and I will continue to keep pushing for progress for the people in the Culmore area."
