Translink has warned that it could suspend bus services to a Derry estate because of a dangerous ‘dare’ being carried out by children.

On a number of occasions in recent weeks, bus drivers have reported instances of a ‘chicken dare’ being played out by young people in the Cornshell Fields area.

Buses drive to the top of the estate before turning.

The dare involves young people running alongside the bus as it makes its downward journey.

The children have also tried unsuccessfully on a number of occasions to open the door of the bus as it was moving.

Translink representatives this week contacted a local councillor to tell him that if the practice does not stop, services to the area could be suspended.

Sinn Fein councillor Tony Hassan said he was shocked at what was happening.

“There’s no doubt that these young people are putting their lives at risk,” he said.
