Three teenagers have been questioned about a recent spate of armed robberies in Magherafelt.

The males, two aged 16 and a 19 year-old, were arrested on Tuesday after police carried out four searches in the Magherafelt area.

All three were questioned and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Their arrests came just days after an attempted robbery at a Chinese takeaway in the south Derry town.

The Golden Gate Chinese Takeaway on Broad Street was targeted in the early hours of Sunday morning when a male armed with a knife entered the premises.

It is understood that the incident happened shortly before 1am.

The perpetrator demanded money but fled empty handed when a staff member shouted for assistance.

On January 18, a young female member of staff was left terrified after a man armed with a knife entered a convenience store on King Street (pictured) shortly after 8pm.

A young girl was also left badly shaken when a similar incident occurred on Tuesday, January 14 at a petrol station in the Church Street area of the town.
