A Limavady teenager, who told police that they should be ‘shot or killed in a collision’ after they arrested him for disorderly behaviour, has been sentenced to six months in jail.
Adam McDaid of Anderson Crescent committed the offence on May 23, Limavady Magistrates Court heard today.
The court was told police received a report that he had pulled down safety barriers and was aggressive to people who were attending a charity football event at Roe Valley Leisure Centre, Limavady on the date in question.
McDaid was located a short time later at Sperrin Road in the town.
The court heard that McDaid pulled down his trousers and became verbally abusive towards police when they approached him.
The 19 year-old was subsequently arrested and while he was being conveyed to the police station he kicked and head butted officers.
The court heard he also spat and nipped police officers and told them that they should be ‘shot or killed in a collision’.
While in custody, McDaid was asked by a civilian detention officer to remove his t-shirt however he refused and became aggressive before striking the officer on the head, the court heard.
McDaid’s defence solicitor Paddy McGurk said his client doesn’t remember making the remarks to police on the date in question as he was intoxicated.
Handing down the prison sentence, District Judge Liam McNally told McDaid that he had committed ‘serious offences which must be marked with a custodial sentence’.
