Canadian teen heart-throb, Brendan Meyer, has this week received his first nomination for a prestigious screen award!
You may be wondering why this is news worthy in County Derry?
Well as a matter of fact, Brendan and his family proudly trace their roots back to the small town of Dungiven.
The young actor tweeted back to the Glenshane Community Development’s message of congratulations on Thursday evening: “@GlenshaneComDev Thank you! My Grannie (sic) was born and raised in Dungiven! Love the Irish support!!!!”
Brendan’s grandmother Bridie (Kealey) was brought up here in Dungiven before emigrating to Canada, although her sisters and uncle still live in the county today.
Brendan, pictured above with his mum Kathleen, has been nominated for the this year’s ‘Best Performance in a Youth series’ award for his role as ‘Adam Young’ in the Canadian TV series ‘Mr. Young’, which has just completed its third and final series.
The awards ceremony will be taking place at the prestigious Sony Centre for Performing Arts in Toronto on Sunday, March 9.
