A Derry school attended by world-famous poet Seamus Heaney has created a new publication in his honour.
St Columb’s College has dedicated this year’s edition of its annual magazine to the Bellaghy-born poet who passed away last year.
‘The Columban’ magazine features the many achievements of both pupils and staff over this past year.
The front cover this year features past pupil and Nobel Laureate Professor Seamus Heaney.
Speaking at the launch, St Columb’s principal Finbarr Madden said it was a fitting tribute to a man whose commitment to St Columb's College never waned over the years.
“Indeed, Professor Heaney had been due to deliver a lecture in the school last September, and the entire school community was shocked and saddened by his untimely passing.”
Professor Heaney's brother, Dan was in attendance for the launched of ‘The Columban’.
He said his family was very proud of the publication.
Brendan O'Donnell, Editor of ‘The Columban, said the magazine had been ordered by Professor Heaney's three teaching universities: Queen's University Belfast, Oxford University and Harvard University Massachusetts.
“It will grace their libraries and provide reference material for future students of Professor Heaney's work.”
