DESERTMARTIN and Ballerin battled out an entertaining draw (0-11 each) in Friday night's opening game of this year's Derry championship. Desertmartin were three points ahead early on and Ballerin battled back to level before Enda McGuckin blazed a penalty over the bar just before half-time to lead by a point. In the second half Desertmartin looked comfortable but in the closing stages Eugene Mullan dragged Ballerin back level and going into injury time they led by two points. There was still time for Desertmartin to tie the game with points from Eamon Burns and Declan Murray. Even in injury time, chances came and went as both sides tried to grasp the win but in the end a draw was a fair result. Ballerin: Eugene Mullan, Gary Keane 0-5 each and Pascal McKay. Desertmartin: Declan Murray 0-4, Enda McGuckin 0-3, Conor Monaghan 0-2, Paul McGovern and Eamon Burns 0-1 each. Full report and photos in Tuesday's County Derry Post. First for your club coverage.
