Ring ABC have launched a new trophy in memory of former boxer Kevin Doherty, who died early last year. The Kevin Doherty Perpetual Cup will be awarded to the club’s best boxer annually, in honour of Doherty, who spent his formative years with RING. One of the first boxers to make the move to Ring following a spell at St. Mary’s in 1979, Doherty was an established boxer, becoming All-Ireland champion at Juvenile level. The first recipient of the trophy is Piaras Jordan, Youth 1 All-Ireland 2016 champion at 36 kilos. The Doherty family presented the trophy to Ring ABC last week, with Kevin’s son Daryl presenting the trophy to Charlie Nash.
