A special memorial was unveiled in the Bogside today in honour of Bishop Edward Daly.

Bishop Daly, who was Bishop of Derry from 1974 to 1993, died last month at the age of 81.

His death provoked great sadness in a city where he had been such a hugely popular figure.

Members of Bishop Daly’s family travelled to Derry this afternoon for the unveiling of the special stone monument in the Bogside.

The stone was unveiled by former SDLP leader John Hume and veteran civil rights campaigner Ivan Cooper.
