Brendan Barr will play for UCD in the League of Ireland Premier Division this season.
The 21-year-old midfielder joins the Students from Derry City.
For the last six months, Barr has been on loan at Dungannon Swifts.
The Newtowncunningham man had a previous spell on loan at Ballymena United.
Barr moved to Derry City aged 17 having been at Finn Harps before then.
Barr made eight senior appearances for the Candystripes and joins a UCD side who maintained their Premier Division place thanks to a 1-0 win over Waterford in the play-off.
