Secretary of State James Brokenshire has set a deadline of the week beginning November 6th for parties to get the Stormont power-sharing Executive up and running again.
Mr Brokenshire said that a budget needed to be passed by then and that legislation to get Stormont up and running again would need to be in place by the end of October.
He told the Northern Ireland Affairs committee that talks had looked 'positive' towards the end of last week but had now 'stalled'.
Mr Brokenshire said that issues remain around language and culture.
