Ireland captain Johnny Sexton has been ruled out of this weekend's Six Nations clash against Italy in Rome.
Sexton, who picked up a groin injury during Ireland's home victory over France in round two, has been unable to recover in time for Saturday's showdown.
Andy Farrell has named James Ryan as captain for the round three encounter with Leinster fly-half Ross Byrne expected to replace Sexton.
Ireland go into the game with two wins on the board as they target Grand Slam glory.
