The Department of Regional Development has re-awarded the Roads Service contract previously held by Dungiven firm KPL to Coleraine-based Whitemountain who will continue existing works and maintenance responsibility for relevant works.
SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey, who revealed the news, said: “I had been contacted by a number of constituents reporting street lights and even traffic lights not working in recent weeks, and had been told by the local DRD that due to the administration of KPL there would be a short delay in dealing with those cases.
“The Regional Development Minister revealed to me his officials have now awarded the existing KPL contract to Whitemountain.
“I want to thank the Minister and his officials for swiftly addressing this issue and, in particular, I am grateful the new contractor has said they will likely use existing KPL staff and subcontractors in the execution of their new contract, which I hope will save local jobs. ”
