This is how a proposed new multi-storey car park at Altnagelvin Hospital will look.
The Derry News this week revealed details of the plans for the £4.5m car park.
However, despite the huge cost, the multi-storey will not create any additional parking spaces at Altnagelvin because a large number of current car parking spaces will be lost as a result of a new wing being built.
The work is part of a £73m development at the hospital.
Dependent on planning permission being granted, work on the new car park is due to start this summer and be completed by Spring of 2015.
Chief Executive of the Western Trust, Elaine Way said: “The Trust is delighted to make this planning application for a multi storey car park at Altnagelvin in preparation for the new North Wing developement. The site for the North Wing is located adjacent to the existing hospital ‘Tower Block’ and will require the relocation of current accommodation and services such as training and education areas, clinical office areas and patient/visitor car parking.
“I would like to express my thanks to all staff and public for their cooperation and support in this matter. The North Wing project will enable the Western Trust to continue with the strategic development of the Altnagelvin Hospital site and will help to deliver leading edge clinical services in a modern healthcare setting.”
