Sarah Jaffe, the radical journalist and author of Necessary Trouble: Americans in Revolt, and, Peter Frase, from the editorial board of Jacobin Magazine will be in Derry tomorrow evening to discuss organising resistance in Trump's America.

The election of billionaire Donald Trump to the White House in November 2016 sent political shockwaves across the US and the world. However, since day one of his time in the Oval Office he has faced enormous resistance. Millions attended a women's rights protest march at Trump's inauguration ceremony in Washington, D.C. earlier this year and this has set the tone since.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Trump's election was not the only political surprise of the 2016 election. The campaign of Vermont Senator and socialist Bernie Sanders stunned the entire political establishment when his call for a 'political revolution against the billionaire class' won more than 13 million votes in the Democratic Party primary.

"The Sanders campaign demonstrated the remarkable popularity of socialism in the US, especially among a younger generation of Americans facing poverty wages, police brutality, for-profit health care and out of control education tuition costs.

"Many Sanders campaigners and voters have been leading the resistance to Trump's policies and tens of thousands have joined socialist organisations. Jacobin, the socialist magazine, launched seven years ago, now has over 1 million online readers and nearly 40,000 print subscribers. As Jaffe and Frase will make clear, the billionaire class and the political establishment in the US will face a growing tide of opposition in the coming years, spearheaded by the young."

The meeting will be held this Friday at 6pm in the Northern Counties Building, 22 Waterloo Place.
