Despite wowing judges during tonight’s live quarter finals of The Voice UK, County Derry’s Rachael O’Connor has failed to make it through to next week’s semi-final.

Earlier this evening, viewers saw the Drumsurn teenager sing for survival in the live quarter finals of the BBC show.

Despite putting on a fantastic performance, the 17 year-old didn't get her mentor Kylie Minogue’s ‘fast pass’ through to next week’s show.

Instead, along with fellow contestant Lee, she faced an agonising wait for the results of the public vote.

Unfortunately, Rachael did not secure enough votes to make it through to the next stage of the competition.

After the results were announced, Kylie Minogue said: “It’s hard to lose anyone.  Rachael is our sweetheart,” before assuring her, “I’m with you.”

Rachael’s performance of her chosen track, ‘Shine a Light’ was well received by the judges.

Tom Jones told the pretty teenager that her performance was confident.

“You have the whole package,” the legendary singer told her, adding: “You’ve already found your voice.  That’s very important for a young performer.”

Most impressed by Rachael’s performance was Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, who told her: “I was spectacularly just blown away.”
