£500 fine for Derry man who wasted police time

Jonathan McCobb (41) of Tullamore Road in Derry appeared charged with wasting police time and resisting arrest
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with wasting police time and resisting arrest.
Jonathan McCobb (41) of Tullamore Road in Derry called the police with concerns about his girlfriend on January 7, claiming that he couldn't get her to wake up.
Police arrived to perform a welfare check and found the woman sleeping. When they woke her up police discovered that she was safe and well. McCobb was seen laughing as this was going on.
McCobb was subsequently arrested for wasting police time, during which he began to resist.
A defence solicitor said that McCobb had been going through a 'mental health crisis' at the time. He added that he hadn't been taking his medication and was intoxicated but that he had acted badly when police tried to arrest him.
He was fined £500.
