Police vow to tackle anti-social driving in Toome area
Police in Magherafelt say they are determined to tackle anti-social driving in the Toome area and want to assure the community that dangerous driving is taken very seriously. Constable Shona Holmes said: “We are aware of ongoing issues surrounding so-caller ‘boy racers’ in and around Toome and are working to address this. We are appealing to young drivers to act responsibly when in control of a car. “Police are aware of the negative impact that this type of activity can have the local community. Those who engage in these activities may regard them as 'fun', but this is not shared by the people who have to endure this type of selfish behaviour. “Driving on the public road brings with it certain responsibilities: to the drivers and passengers; to their families and friends; and to the community as a whole. These responsibilities should not be taken lightly. It is important to point out that drivers should expect to receive a fine or worse, prosecution through the courts, should they be detected engaging in careless or dangerous driving or modifying their vehicle illegally. “Police are currently working to address the problem but would urge anyone who knows of dangerous driving in their area to note down the registration details of the offending vehicles and contact police immediately. “This is a serious matter. This type of dangerous driving may result in serious injury or worse. We would like the community to report these incidents to us. Note down any details and phone Police on the 101 number.”
