Police have issued a safety warning after seizing a number of illegal fireworks in the Dungiven area.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "D Section officers from Limavady carried out a proactive operation last night in Dungiven in response to community concerns regarding fireworks.

"As a result 19 rocket type fireworks were seized and one male will be reported to the juvenile liaison officer.

"Such fireworks can be dangerous, cause serious injury and can have a negative effect on your community, particularly with the older members.

"Also it is a criminal offence to possess and discharge such fireworks without a licence."
