Police in Limavady are hunting for two men who posed as cops in a bid to get money off a householder.

It was reported that at around 7.30pm yesterday (February 4) two men dressed in police uniforms called to a house at Seacoast Road, Limavady and told the occupant that they were investigating counterfeit money and asked him to hand over any notes he had in his possession.

A sum of money was handed over and the two men left in a small hatch back car. Both men wore yellow coats with Police written on the back, black boots and trousers and caps with a badge and police written on them.

They also wore yellow rubber gloves.

The first man was described as being around 35 years old, approx 5'7" tall, of thin build with a local accent and the second man as being in his 40's, approx 5'9", of medium build and also with a local accent.

Detectives can confirm that these men were not police officers and would remind householders not to permit anyone inside their home without being 100% sure of who they are. Householders should always check the ID of any unknown caller irrespective of who they claim to represent and if in doubt, not let them in.
