Police continue to tackle anti-social and dangerous driving in Toome area
Police continue to target anti-social and dangerous driving in and around the Toome area and are determined to take robust action against anyone found to be engaging in this type of activity. Inspector Joanne Gibson said, “Police are proactively targeting the ongoing issue of anti-social and dangerous driving in the vicinity of The Elk, Creagh Industrial estate and the A6 dual carriageway. “During a recent operation, nine drivers were spoken to in relation to numerous offences which include dangerous driving, failure to have proper control of the vehicle, causing danger to road users, discharging a firework within 15m of a road, no insurance, no driving licence. Those involved in this nuisance on our roads will face prosecution. “As well as causing a nuisance to other road users and local residents, those involved are creating a danger for themselves. “We understand the detrimental effect this behaviour has on others and have, in the past, carried out proactive operations in the area, resulting in prosecutions and cars being taken off the road. “Our message is that bad driving standards will not be tolerated. They should realise that if they are taken to court, their licences may be at risk and the loss of a licence could impact on their entire futures. “We want these motorists also to realise the dangers they are causing to themselves and other road users. The last thing police want is to be knocking on doors of relatives following a fatal crash caused by someone showing off in a car.” “So far this year, seven people have lost their lives on the roads in mid Ulster (figures for year to date up until 9am on Nov. 11th 2015), don’t become another statistic. “If anyone has any concerns regarding anti-social driving please contact Police on the 101 number.”
