A woman has been robbed of cash, credit cards and medication by two men with knives outside her workplace in Kilrea.

Police are appealing for information after the woman was robbed at around 11.05pm in the evening on Sunday July 16.

The men approached her as she sat in her car outside Kenny’s Filling Station on Maghera Street. They demanded money before opening the woman’s car door and taking her handbag, containing her credit cards and also medication.

The pair subsequently fled on foot towards Larchfield Gardens.

East Derry MLA John Dallat said the second theft of this nature in the area in the past few weeks. He condemned the robbery as an act of cowardice.

“There can be no lower form of cowardice than to rob a female in the corner of a carpark at 11.00 o’clock at night and take not just their money but their credit cards and in this case personal medication,” he said.

“I have expressed by disgust to the proprietor and asked him to convey my wishes to his employee for a speedy recovery from this awful experience.

“This is the second time in a few weeks that robbery has taken place at this very busy filling station and retail outlet.  This is dreadful for the staff not knowing when they are going to strike again.”

Mr Dallat said that the courts “make an example of those involved” and said that all Kilrea residents have a role to play in catching the criminals.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the vicinity of Kilrea Filling Station on Sunday night about this time to reflect on what they may have observed and co-operate with the PSNI who are investigating this robbery,” he said.

“I would also ask anyone spending more money than they can normally afford to make that known to the police so that they can be checked out.”

Detective Sergeant Gallagher appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area and who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation,” he said.

“Detectives at Coleraine Criminal Investigation Branch can be contacted by calling 101, quoting reference number 1446 16/07/17.”

“Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
