An investigation is underway after scores of passengers were stranded at City of Derry Airport yesterday.
Passengers on the 9am flight from Alicante were forced to stay in the baggage collection area as they awaited the arrival of officials from the UK Border Force who had to travel from Belfast International Airport.
Passengers spent around 45 minutes inside the plane before they were allowed to disembark and waited in the airport terminal for a further hour and 15 minutes to be processed.
A Home Office spokesperson said yesterday afternoon: “Border Force apologises for the delay experienced by passengers arriving at City of Derry Airport this morning.
“Officers were deployed as usual from Belfast International Airport as soon as they became aware of the issue. We are investigating the circumstances of this incident."
