Part of the River Foyle has burst its bank tonight in the Culmore Road area of Derry.

Torrential rain this evening has led to heavy flooding in the area.

A high tide in the Foyle has added to the situation and the water has flooded over parts of the wall on the road leading to Culmore Point.

Vehicles are being turned away from the area and police are appealing for motorists to avoid the area.

Culmore is regularly affected by flooding during heavy rain, but local people have said that tonight's flooding is the worst they have seen in many years.

The road from the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge to the John Street roundabout has also been closed tonight because of flooding. Again, motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
