More than a thousand mourners have attended the funeral of a retired couple murdered in their home in Cardonagh, County Donegal last week.

Jimmy and Kathleen Cuddihy were laid to rest earlier today at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Carndonagh.

The couple's son, Julian, has since been charged with their murder.

Speaking at this morning's service, Maureen, the couple’s eldest daughter, said they did not want any family to suffer as they have.

Maureen then made a tearful and impassioned plea to families to seek help for anyone with untreated mental health problems.

She also paid tribute her parents whom she said helped so many people in the community.

Mourners in the packed church then showed their support with a round of applause.
