The former long-serving principal of the Oakgrove Integrated Primary School and Nursery in Derry has been honoured in the New Year's Honours List.

Dr Anne Murray (picture above) has received an OBE for her services to education.

As well as being the founding principal of the Waterside school for 23 years, Dr Murray is vice-chairperson of Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment, a member of the Department of Education's review into post-primary education (the Costello Committee) and an NI Council for Integrated Education management representative on the Teachers' Negotiating Committee.

She is also an NICIE mentor and coach for new principals of integrated schools, part-time education lecturer at the University of Ulster and governor of Oakgrove Integrated College.
