A Derry DUP councillor has welcomed the visit of the Taoiseach to the Orange Order's Headquarters in Belfast.

Leo Varadkar hmade history as the first serving leader of the Republic of Ireland to visit the organisation's building on Friday, where he was welcomed by the Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Edward Stevenson.

Commenting, the Derry DUP councillor David Ramsey said: "This has to be welcomed because if there is not this type of mutual respect there is no peace."

"Brexit is being used as an offensive against everyone who wants to be British and ignoring the fact that good relations with our neighbours in the Irish republic are too important to allow the remainers to derail the best deal for us both.

"Brexit will work for both."
